Mission:
Anchor Way Baptist Church (AWBC) is a body whose mission is to provide a means by which believers encourage and assist one another in fulfilling the Great Commission. (Matthew 28:19-20)
The Christian purpose of AWBC is to conduct Christian services; to disseminate, teach, and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ; to engage and aid the growth, nurture, and spread of the Christian faith; and to render Christian service, both material and spiritual to all persons.
The Christian purpose of AWBC includes, but is not limited to the following:
A. Leading Christian worship in accordance with Psalm 96:6 and John 4:24. This includes, but is not limited to, preaching and teaching the Holy Bible through participation in prayer, singing, and sharing together.
B. Providing for Christian service activities in the community and throughout the world to address social needs based on Matthew 25:31-46. This may include but is not limited to, providing clothing and food for the poor and homeless, and to provide programs and events relevant to the local, national, and world social needs.
C. Providing opportunities for personal growth and pastoral care, Christian fellowship and mutual support based on Matthew 11:28-30. These activities include, but are not limited to, marriage and family counseling, pastoral counseling, weddings, funerals, and opportunities for personal study.
D. Providing opportunities and programs for Christian education, discipleship, nurture, and growth based on Ephesians 4:11-12 and Colossians 3:16. These activities may include, but are not limited to, offering college courses, seminary and theological education, classes for all ages, discipleship training, recreation opportunities, and spiritual development classes, seminars, and workshops, and making available literature to accomplish these programs.
Church Covenant:
Having been brought by the grace of God to embrace Jesus Christ, having confessed Him as Lord and Savior, and having been baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we most solemnly enter into covenant with one another, in the presence of God, as one body in Christ.
God enabling us, we covenant to walk together in Christian love, to be kind and considerate of one another, sharing in one anothers joys, forbearing one anothers failings, and with tenderness and sympathy bearing one anothers sorrows.
We covenant to recognize the Pastor as the under-shepherd who is responsible to lead the church body. The pastoral staff and support staff are directed by the Pastor, and the deacons are servant leaders who assist the Pastor in fulfilling the mission of the church.
We will strive for the growth of our church in faith, hope, and love, promote its spiritual welfare, sustain its worship, ordinances and doctrine, and contribute cheerfully, through our tithes and offerings, to the support of its ministry, and the spread of the gospel throughout the world.
We will avail ourselves to the great privilege of prayer for others and for ourselves, strive to maintain a life of sincere and pure devotion to God, and seek to be whole-hearted in our work, honest and just in our dealings, faithful in our relationships, and exemplary in our behavior.
We will guard with vigilance our testimony to Jesus Christ before a watching world. In the strength that God supplies, we will resist Satan and all that is opposed to the will of God. In love we will cleave to our Lord Jesus Christ, and seek, whether we are praised or persecuted to live to His glory.
Moreover, we engage that when we move from this place, we will, as soon as possible, unite with some other church, where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of Gods work.
